The other night on the fire escape out back, which I now refer to as the ‘ gathering place of the greatest minds of 2013’ my two neighbours, from this point on referred to as Jack and Jill for anonymity purposes and I solved the economic crisis in Canada. My neighbour just returned from a two week trip to the five ‘Stans’ as he called it. The five ‘Stans’ consisted of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Brian shared with me pictures of breathtaking scenery and the heartbreaking stories he heard about the hardships that the local people endure.

The other night there was the most fantastic thunder and lightning storm here in Toronto. As this is a weather phenomenon not seen in Vancouver, I headed out on the fire escape to watch the spectacle. The dark skies were shattered by brilliant white bolts of light and the thunderous claps that followed each performance, shook the steps I was sitting on.
It was during one of these illuminating light moments that I came face to face (literally) with a nasty, garbage raccoon perched high in the tree beside the fire escape. Read more…

I was running late, very late. Even though I had given myself an hour to make the twenty minute drive, I hadn’t anticipated the traffic congestion or the Toronto city by-law restrictions of ‘no parking’, ‘no stopping’, ’no standing’.
